Driving Out (1/28/25): Freeze! (For the Most Part)

A bigger immediate issue for institutions than individuals

Freezing Federal disbursements was certainly a possibility when the new Administration took over last Monday. The Memo released late yesterday by the Acting Director of the Office of Management & Budget made considerable reverberations today, as most disbursements of grants, loans, and other programs from almost all Federal Agencies are now frozen (as of a few minutes before I posted this, 5 p.m. ET). At the same time, expect the definition of what will and will not be frozen to change continuously, which means it will be whittled down and less impactful on individual recipients.

In the video, I share what we know so far about its reach, which appears to focus more on disbursements to institutions (State and Local Governments, Nonprofits, and Businesses) and less on funds received by individuals (Medicaid, and entitlements like Social Security and Medicare). There might be a few more thoughts as well. Check out the transcript if you are unable to watch and listen.
