Building on my commentary last week about restoring the importance of duty as our goal against our desire for power, I wanted to discuss another essential virtue we need to elevate: the importance of recognizing and living in line with natural, universal truths.
As today’s video describes, the lack of respect for truth amongst our younger generations (evidenced by the beliefs and rhetoric in protests at campuses across the country showing support for and solidarity with the terrorists who are Hamas) has to start somewhere. My theory ties back to the lack of core curriculums in today’s higher education system, as I’ve learned more recently, the lack of core subject study established in today’s college admission standards.
Understanding and respecting undeniable truths (i.e., the application of natural law) is not encoded with us from birth. Parents and others who influence the lives of children must instill and reinforce them. This includes the path of formal learning.
Otherwise, per the portion of narration I mentioned in the video from Don Henley’s “The Garden of Allah,” everything can be manipulated.
